How the three name version differs
The two name engine takes a head from one name and a tail from the other. With three names there is a third position, and it is a genuinely worse one: the middle name has to give up an interior fragment, cut on both sides, with neither its opening nor its ending left to identify it.
The tool handles that in two ways. The middle fragment is bounded by two of that name's own split points, so both of its edges land where the name naturally comes apart. And the ranking weights the weakest coverage of the three at 0.5, ahead of both balance and the average, so a blend that quietly drops one name cannot climb to the top by keeping the other two intact.

What to expect from the results
They are longer. The length ceiling is the same fourteen characters, and three fragments have to fit inside it, so short names work far better here than long ones. If all three names are long, expect very few candidates or none at all.
They are also less recoverable, and no amount of scoring fixes that. A reader who has never seen the blend has to find three names in one word, and in practice most people find two. If everyone who will use the name already knows all three, that is fine. If strangers need to decode it, three names joined plainly is the more honest format.

Why does the middle name always keep the least?
Because it is cut on both sides. A head keeps its opening and a tail keeps its ending, and both of those are cues a reader can use. An interior fragment has neither, which is why the middle position is the weakest one.
Are three name blends actually usable?
Sometimes, for a group of friends, a trio, or three pets. They are longer and less recoverable than two name blends, and a reader is unlikely to recover all three sources. If that matters, three names joined plainly will serve you better.
